Kempinski Palace Engelberg Titlis is a beautiful, 5 stars palace hotel just next to Titlis Mountain. Previously it was a historic Grand Hotel from 1904. The most beautiful hotel in the Engelberg area presents modern luxury comfort and charming Belle Epoque design. It has 129 contemporary rooms and suites with exceptional views of the mountains. There is a Gault & Millau restaurant, a rooftop spa, a stunning pool and a relaxation room. One of the best kids’ clubs in Switzerland. A wonderful concierge team, that will help you to plan your stay to every detail. All of this is surrounded by fresh air and beautiful nature. I had the pleasure to spend a few days in April together with my family in this lovely hotel. We experienced their wonderful hospitality and we plan to be back in the winter. In my review, I will focus mostly on the family experience because for me it is very important. Also, we celebrated Mother’s Day at the hotel and I really loved how they made all families and especially moms feel special and loved. A truly unforgettable hotel stay. Family Experience at the Kempinski Palace Engelberg Titlis.

A Family Experience at the Kempinski Palace Engelberg Titils was unique for me. I truly felt that my whole family was welcomed and well taken care of. Including my little furry member of the family, a Yorkie miniature. The kids club is a vibrant place that my son loved a lot. He has not only played a lot but developed a love for drawing thanks to the brilliant professional care at the club. He was making different crafts, including gifts for me, like bracelets. He also met a lot of friends from all over the world. I am sure that every parent can rest assured that their children will enjoy and, learn, have fun and be creative at this place. In the restaurants, there is a healthy children’s menu available. Chefs even can make something special for the little ones. For example, my son loves polenta and their Italian chef created a polenta dish for him. It was so delicious that I wouldn’t mind eating it too. Children have their mini corner in the breakfast room, that looks like a mini shop. They can get their favourite cereals, fruits or other kids’ favourite ingredients. Last but not least children can be at the pool area together with adults. There are no special hours for them, so that was nice.

Ambiance at Hotel Kempinski Engelberg Titlis.

As I already mentioned hotel is part of the historical Belle Epoque building. Even though it’s beautiful and modern it still has a wonderful original feel to it. You find all over beautiful large panoramic windows, details and elegance. I could feel the “Grand Hotel” atmosphere all over the place. As an art historian, I must say that Belle Epoque with its elegance and glamour is my favourite style in art and architecture. That is why I loved so much our stay. I could nearly feel the presence of aristocracy and bourgeoisie who would dance in the ballroom and enjoy the sun on the balconies. Now the great ballroom has been transformed into a lobby. There is a new wing in the hotel that contrasts a lot with the Grand Hotel spirit, but it’s a nice contrast. Combination of old and new, historical and modern.

Room with a view.

We have stayed in the Junior Suite which is around 55 m² large. It was just perfect for me and my family and we felt very comfortable in it. This suite has a balcony and a magnificent view of the mountains. It’s located in the new wing and presents state-of-the-art interior design and functionality. My son slept on the sofa bed that was turned into a sleeping arrangement in the evening and we had a large, comfy king-size bed. Even my dog Matisse received his bed and he was very happy about it. The bathroom was very spacious and featured a bathtub, shower and luxurious toiletries. There were fresh flowers in the room, which I always love and fruits and sweet treats for my son.

I must say that we spend a lot of time in the room just reading books on the bed or balcony and admiring the stunning views. This room is really meant to be enjoyed, not only meant for sleeping.

Spa Area.

The spa area at Kempinski Palace Engelberg is the ultimate 880-square-metre relaxation heaven. Especially the panoramic rooftop with an infinity pool. There is a dreamy relaxation room with an Alpine theme with beds next to the window to watch birds of prey. In the centre of this room, there is a large fireplace and it’s one of my favourite places in the spa area to relax and unwind. It’s ideal to come after the treatment or just during the day to disconnect. Of course like in every mountain resort there is a complex sauna world. It includes a steam bath, Vitarium, Finnish sauna and ice fountain. All of this is stylish and welcoming. As many of my readers already know I love to go to the gym during my hotel stays. This gym at Kempinski is perfect, even though was not big, it has all it needs. All equipment is the latest state of the art. The gym is cosy and has a nice view of the mountains. What was very important for me is that the gym is always open, so I could also come for a short workout after dinner. It’s not the case with many hotel gyms, so I was truly happy about this little touch. Last but not least there is the spa in the hotel that offers unique beauty treatments. They are connecting our body and mind with nature and offer deep relaxation. There are so many treatments to choose from, for example:

THE BESPOKE JOURNEY Treatment:

Dry brush – massage – facial – paraffin hand mask.
To start, a gentle full body dry brush, followed by a customised massage. To finish, our invidivual facial according to your skin’s needs, accompanied by a hydrating paraffin mask for your hands.

Breakfast and Brunch.

Breakfast at Kempinski Palace Engelberg hotel is truly a five-star plus delight. Full of flavours, freshly prepared products and set in a beautiful and elegant atmosphere of the Cattani Restaurant. During the weekend guests can enjoy a later raiser breakfast. This special breakfast is served from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. It’s a wonderful idea as guests can stay longer in beds and have a proper Sunday brunch. The hotel extended this idea also for external guests. It’s a wonderful initiative and keeps the restaurant buzzing on Sunday at midday time.

I was very lucky as during my stay at Kempinski there was a Mother’s day and the hotel created a special Brunch to celebrate all the moms. It was a special Mother’s Day Brunch with live cooking, fresh risotto, delicious cakes and festivities. They made my Mother’s day truly unforgettable, also because this morning I took a pregnancy test and found out that I will have my 2nd baby. So it was a very emotional and festive day for me and I was truly grateful to the staff at the hotel to be so wonderful to me and my family.

Restaurants.

Lunch and cocktails at the Palace Bar.

The Palace Bar was built in 1905 and is a spectacular place. It is the semi-circular shape of the place with panorama windows and an atmosphere like in the old movies. The atmosphere is grand and unspoken. Full of history and mystery too. I am sure there was a lot of romance, love and other feelings that took place in this place over the last 100 years. There is a fireplace, a large bar and even live piano music. We had cocktails in the place, but also a nice Saturday lunch, which was delicious.

CATTANI RESTAURANT- The Gourmet experience.

Our experience at Cattani Restaurant was absolutely fantastic. even if I would like to find something bad about this place to share with you to sound more authentic, I really can’t find it. Everything was fantastic there. Starting with absolutely excellent service, a five-star at every level yet friendly and approachable. They serve fine cuisine with regional influences, everything was fresh and delicious. The menu looked so good that it was not easy for me to choose the food. On top of it, everything we chose was delicious. It was asparagus season and there were a lot of dishes with this vegetable on the menu. I am a huge fan of asparagus soup and I must say that the one I make is pretty good, but the soup at Kempinski was the best I had in my life! It’s also my husband’s opinion. If you visit the hotel during this season I strongly recommend you to try the asparagus menu, you will not regret it and you can thank me later. Last but not least I forgot to mention that the name of the restaurant comes from Eduard Cattani. He was quite a personality in Engelberg. He built Hotel Titlis, the Kuranstalt and the Grandhotel, which today is the Kempinski Palace Engelberg. He was a mayor, governor and chief justice and was responsible for shaping Engelberg’s into a spa resort.

Afternoon Tea at the Winter Garden Salon

The Wintergarden room at Kempinski Palace Hotel is a stunning place worth visiting any time of the year. Although I think that it looks even more magical in winter when you can see snowflakes dropping from the sky while sipping a hot chocolate or tea. There is beautiful and comfy furniture ideal to admire the view through the large windows. In the afternoon they serve a delicious Afternoon Tea that is definitely a high tea style. While sipping champagne and delicious tea I tried some homemade cakes and freshly baked pastries. Warm scones with butter, cream and jam and delicious sandwiches. It was all a celebrated moment with small details. Like white gloves, porcelain sets and the elegant way the food was served. The afternoon Tea at Kempinski hotel is a must!

What to do in the area.

The Engelberg resort attracts sports lovers, but also people who seek relaxation and a peaceful atmosphere. Nature is still the biggest asset of this place. Admiring large peaks, claiming them or skiing is the essential activity in the region. Summer is great for hiking and winter for skiing, snowmobiling or sledging. There is something for everyone. Engelberg’s slopes are attracting freestyle and off-piste skiers and there are a lot of Scandinavians, Swiss, English and even Indian tourists. The last ones are also visiting Engelberg as it’s a place where Bollywood movies are filled. So it attracts travellers from that region.

After a day full of outdoor activities it’s lovely to enjoy some luxury spa and delicious food. Alexandra Ellerkamp, the marketing director of Kempinski Palace Engelberg said:

As you can see Engelberg is a destination for relaxed travellers, who values comfort, but also want to stay active and enjoy nature above all. It’s ideal for families as children can also learn winter sports or stay in the amazing kids club while parents can ski in amazing conditions. The Kempinski Palace Engelberg offers a transfer to the ski station so it’s very convenient for the guests.

Climbing by foot on the Fürenalp for an “Alpine Cheese Trail”.
Going inside the touring cabin on the Titlis to discover the ice cave and staggering “Cliff Walk”.
Launching into a via ferrata in Fürenalp or on a mountain bike across the “Traildorado of the Surrenen Valley”.
