by Condé Nast Traveler, I had to visit it and experience this outstanding property.
An Architectural Masterpiece set on the shores of Como Lake.
From the moment you approach Il Sereno Lago di Como Hotel, its design philosophy becomes evident. The clean lines, natural materials, and open spaces blur the boundaries between the indoors and the spectacular outdoor scenery. With Lake Como as its muse, every detail of the hotel seems to echo the tranquil beauty of its surroundings. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow sunlight to pour into the spaces, while each suite offers a private terrace with views that are nothing short of cinematic. Speaking of cinematic experience, the stay reminded me a lot of James Bond aesthetics and charm, I also found a lot of these references in the hotel suites, that could really match James perfectly, not to mention the self-driven Jetto Boats.
The interplay of light and shadow is particularly mesmerizing during golden hour, as the sun dips behind the surrounding mountains, casting a warm glow on the lake’s rippling waters. The colour palette within the hotel mirrors the earthy tones of the landscape. Soft beiges, deep greens, and muted greys—creating an atmosphere that feels elegant and inviting.
My Serene Escape to Il Sereno.
During my recent visit, I described my stay at Il Sereno Lago di Como Hotel as:
“a dream come true.”
My experience was nothing short of enchanting. “Waking up to the serene views of Lake Como was magical”.
The way the morning light filtered through the wooden screens in my suite felt like a gentle embrace. In one of my photos, my assistant perfectly captured an unforgettable moment that now seems unreal. I was standing on the balcony wrapped in a cashmere, with a book in hand. This scene perfectly encapsulates the hotel’s promise of simple luxuries. This moment is when you can feel the sun on your face and the warmth of freshly made coffee ( and just let me tell you, I had my best cappuccino ever over there). Also, the coffee cups can’t be ignored, they are created by artisans in Venice, especially for the hotel and guests can also purchase them, along with other pieces that we can find in the Il Sereno suites.
When I explored the property, I was particularly impressed by the infinity pool, which seemed to merge seamlessly with the lake.
Another highlight was dining at Il Sereno’s Michelin-starred restaurant, Ristorante Berton Al Lago. Chef Raffaele Lenzi’s innovative approach to Italian cuisine left me in awe, with dishes that were as visually stunning as they were delicious. Each bite was a testament to the creativity and craftsmanship of the culinary team. I tried the Trufle Discovery Menu, and it felt like the perfect choice for November evening.
Unforgettable Experiences
Il Sereno Lago di Como Hotel is not just a place to stay but a gateway to experiencing the very essence of Lake Como. Guests are encouraged to explore the lake on the hotel’s custom-built wooden Riva boats. A nod to the region’s rich boating tradition. I did that it was an unforgettable experience. The captain took me on a tour around the lake and showed me incredible properties and villas set on the shores. For example: Villa d’Este, the villa of George Clooney and Gianni Versace.
For those seeking relaxation, the serene spa offers treatments that draw inspiration from the surrounding nature. It’s a wonderful experience to be in the private spa and look at the lake that is just behind the walls. They also offer treatments with one of my favourite brands Valmont, so I had to treat myself with a massage and relax fully.
Il Sereno di Como Hotel is a Place to Return To. Conclusion
Il Sereno isn’t just a hotel; it’s an experience of beauty, tranquillity, and inspiration. The memories I created here—from sunrise meditations to sunset dinners overlooking the lake. Now woven into the essence of my journey as a traveller and storyteller and also an art historian and interior designer.
