Mandarin Oriental Palace Luzern -A new star is born.
Mandarin Oriental Hotels are famous for the utmost luxury and wonderful experiences. Visiting this stunning hotel has been an unforgettable experience for me and my family. We all loved this quiet Belle Epoque palace with the most stunning views. It was a pleasure to wake up with the view of the lake, drink coffee on the balcony or go for a walk around the shore. The rooms were cosy and beautiful, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the restaurants served the most delicious dishes. Attention to detail was visible everywhere and even in the fine points. Mandarin Oriental Palace Luzern, which was recently opened surely will be gaining more and more attention among travellers.
The new Swiss-Ultimate-Luxury getaway destination is born.
This hotel is ideal for couples, families, solo travellers, and people visiting Luzern on business. Everyone can find their place in this unique hotel full of history and beautiful memories. Mandarin Oriental Palace Luzern is ready to create a new chapter for this historic place and bring hospitality to another level.
History of Mandarin Oriental Palace.
The Palace Hotel Luzern was built between 1904 and 1906 and is officially designated as a cultural asset of national importance. It was built as one of the most modern and innovative hotels in Switzerland and quickly became a famous destination for wealthy travellers. Constructed by successful hotelier: Franz-Josef Bucher-Durrer. A creator of 10 beautiful hotel palaces all over the world. This palace in many respects, represented the pinnacle of his achievements. It was extravagant, innovative and monumental. What was new, nearly all rooms had their bathrooms and were overlooking the lake. Within the years, after the glorious history of the Grand Dame, the palace started to fade and was in a bad state. Only after 5 years of restorations in September 2022 the Palce was born again as Mandarin Oriental Palace Luzern. It still has the old Grand Hotel look and spirit, but its interiors are renovated with picture-ready angels. By adding the East Asian interpretation of luxury brought by Mandarin Oriental they achieved a beautiful fusion of contemporary elegance and beauty.
Room Tour
Mandarin Oriental Palace has 136 beautifully designed rooms and suites. Starting the Mandarin Room and finishing with Panoramic Rooftop Terrace Suite and Presidential Suite. We have stayed in Lake View Suite with Terrace King Bed. It had a private and expansive terrace overlooking the lake. Interiors were bespoke with signature touches of MO hotels, Swiss elegance and refined luxury. There was a beautiful marble bathroom and the latest technology of Bose and Dyson in the room. I loved so many details of the room and attention to the detail presented by the staff. For example, during the turndown service, they were adding bookmarks to all the books and attaching laptop cables together. There was also a beautiful welcome with fresh flowers, pastries and fruits.
Dining at Mandarin Oriental Palace Luzern.
Mandarin Oriental Palace Luzern has several dining options. However, when we visited the Palace only Brasserie was open. MOzern Bar & Brasserie serves a modern, sophisticated menu, full of fresh, local products with a Far East flair. The large space of the restaurant has magnificent mountain panorama views. It’s all-day dining with many sharing options on the menu that connects different cultures. Restaurants are overseen by executive chef Gilad Peled, a graduate of Gordon Ramsay’s school. There are Swiss options on the menu like Raclette Cheese Burger of Swiss Beef or Asian MOzern Noodles or Crispy Duck Rolls. We truly enjoyed the food, service and ambience of MO Brasserie which was 10/10.
Breakfast
Breakfast is also served in the beautiful interiors of MOzern and Brasserie. The round bar changes into a buffet with delicious food. There is also an A la carte menu with many egg dishes. Everyone will find something delicious on the menu.
Spa Time
The spa and wellness in the Mandarin Oriental Palace is not large but offers serenity and relaxation. I loved the gym with the latest state-of-the-art equipment. Because of the historical building structure, there is no pool on-site, but the hotel offers saunas and a steam room. There is also a spa with the luxury Swiss brand Bellefontaine. I know this brand well and for me, it is one of the best cosmetics brands that I tested.
Family Approach (children and dog)
Although there is no kids club at the hotel it is still a great destination for family holidays in Lucerne. By family, I mean all members, including babies and dogs. When we entered the room there were a lot of gifts for children like a staffed St. Bernard dog, puzzles, backpacks and books. There was even a lovely book about Luzern so children could get to know the city and its history. As we travelled with a baby (2 months old) I was a bit concerned about how it will be, but it was perfect. There were all the necessary items, including a Stokke baby cot, beautiful bed sheets with the St. Bernards dog and accessories (even diapers). For my older son ( 5 y.o.) they have prepared a convertible sofa as a bed, which was nice and comfy. Also, our smallest member of the family (Yorkshire miniature) was nicely welcomed at the hotel. There was a beautiful bed prepared for him, a dog cookie, a special menu and bottled water. Hotel staff was regularly refilling his bowl with fresh water and this was something that I have never experienced travelling with my dog.
